The
Flags on Winner Project
has been approved by the City of Independence and is now officially underway!
Neighborhood groups and individuals are joining the Englewood Business Association (EBA) to create a spectacular display of American flags and banners that display pride, support and unity for the new Independence School District boundaries.
The plan is underway to purchase and install new brackets on the seventy-three decorative lampposts along the two-plus mile stretch of Winner/Lexington between Truman Road and Crysler. 106 American flags will be hung in time for the Flag Day Celebration in Englewood, Saturday, June14th, from 11am to 3pm.
To accomplish this project the EBA is soliciting donations of $100.00 to "sponsor a flag." Sponsors may dedicate their donation in honor of a person or event by writing a brief dedication, anecdote, story or note and/or photo. A map of the flags and sponsors with their stories and photos will be displayed at the Englewood COPS Station, 10920 E. Winner Road.
Time and financial limitations necessitate the school banner installation at a yet to be determined date coinciding with Independence School District activities this year.
The Independence City Council has chosen to match cash donations up to $10,000.00. The City Council gift combined with generous discounts from Manneco Inc and Sign-A-Rama along with the donated work of skilled craftsmen will pay for this project.
The materials are ordered and the work is scheduled. Now is the time to make your donation.
To sponsor a flag or make a donation, checks should be made payable to the “Englewood Business Association.” Dedication forms are available to pick up at Changing Seasons Gift Gallery or call 254-9044 to request one.
